The only modified-live 5-way viral with Vibrio and Lepto hardjo-bovis protection
Intervet Inc., a global leader in livestock vaccine research and development, announces the availability of Vista 5 VL5 SQ. The vaccine is labeled to provide the most complete reproductive disease protection available against Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR), Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) Types 1 and 2, Camplyobacter fetus (Vibriosis) and Leptospirosis.
“A significant differentiator of the Vista 5 VL5 SQ product is the combination of two major bacteriological reproductive diseases affecting cattle -- Lepto and Vibrio – with a five-way modified-live viral,” says Scott Nordstrom, D.V.M., Intervet Veterinary Services Manager. “No other modified-live vaccine (MLV) combines this superior five-way viral efficacy with Vibriosis and five-way Leptospira that includes protection for L. borgpetersenii serovar hardjo-bovis.”
The Vista 5 VL5 SQ vaccine is a line extension to Intervet’s Vista vaccines, introduced in 2005. Vista, the premier MLV vaccine for cattle, provides the most complete protection available against respiratory and reproductive diseases.
Leptospirosis and Campylobacter fetus (vibriosis)
Leptospirosis and Vibriosis are two of the most important reproductive diseases impacting beef and dairy producers’ herds. Vibrio can lower conception rates and cause infertility, while Lepto can lead to both early and end-term complications such as abortions, stillbirths, weak calves and loss of milk production.
“A successful cattle operation hinges on the reproductive performance of its herd,” says Nordstrom. “Vista 5 VL5 SQ is proven to combat costly reproductive diseases.”
Proven protection
Efficacy of the VL5 component was demonstrated in five studies involving 122 calves. Cattle vaccinated with Vista 5 VL5 SQ had a 66 percent conception improvement rate compared to controls following an aggressive virulent challenge study. Because cattle are maintenance hosts for Lepto hardjo-bovis, Nordstrom says this subtype in particular is a major concern for beef and dairy cattle producers. The L. hardjo contained in VL5 SQ demonstrated 100 percent protection from urine shedding of Lepto hardjo following a virulent challenge.
“Vista provides protection against the full spectrum of common respiratory and reproductive diseases,” says Nordstrom. “In addition to the superior protection against the reproductive effects of Lepto and Vibrio, Vista 5 VL5 SQ has been proven to aid in the control of abortions caused by IBR, as well as aiding in the prevention of persistently infected (PI) calves caused by BVD (Types 1 and 2). It also has demonstrated cell-mediated immune response for IBR, BVD Type 1 and 2 and BRSV.”
Labeled for the vaccination of healthy cows and heifers prior to breeding, Vista 5 VL5 SQ is compliant with Beef Quality Assurance recommendations with vaccination consisting of a single, 2-mL dose administered in the neck subcutaneously. Vista 5 VL5 SQ is available in 10- and 50-dose presentations. Refer to carton for complete vaccination directions. Annual revaccination is recommended.
