Rabies vaccination

For every dose of Continuum® canine or feline vaccine sold in the U.S., Intervet will donate a dose of Intervet rabies vaccine to save dogs and families in the Serengeti.

In Africa’s Serengeti National Park, an explosive growth in the number of domestic dogs has led to frequent outbreaks of rabies, distemper, and parvovirus in recent years. It’s estimated that rabies kills up to 25,000 people a year in Africa—and most of them are children. In the Serengeti, rabies boasts the highest fatality rate of any infectious disease, with 84.2% of cases traced back to domestic dogs.

That’s why Intervet has joined forces with the Afya Serengeti project—to help them in their goal to ensure widespread vaccination of the domestic dog, with an aim to eradicate the rabies threat in the Serengeti.

Backed by donations from organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and Intervet in Europe, Afya Serengeti has proved remarkably effective. By its second year, Afya Serengeti had managed to reduce by 82% the number of people needing hospital care for bites from rabid dogs. Intervet is committed to supporting Afya Serengeti long-term, and we hope that, with your help, we can extend the cover provided by the program steadily to surrounding districts.

You have five months to save thousands of lives.

Vets, you can help. This special program is available between August 1 and December 31, 2007. So be sure to purchase your Continuum vaccines now to ensure that you’re having the greatest impact possible on the dogs and people of the Serengeti.
